Bethlehem Area School District Launches eSchoolPLUS Family App to Advance Roadmap 3.0 Initiative
The Bethlehem Area School District (ASD) announced today that it is launching the eSchoolPLUS Family App to advance its Roadmap 3.0 to Educational Excellence initiative. Through the Family App, the school district will put essential information that supports student achievement at the fingertips of all families it serves.
According to Joseph J. Roy, Ed.D., Bethlehem ASD’s superintendent of schools, Roadmap 3.0 offers a framework for excellence that guides the district’s mission of educating the whole child. “Roadmap 3.0 seeks to eliminate race and family income as predictors of school success by guaranteeing equitable access to opportunities for learning and growth,” he says. “Access to these opportunities provides each student what he or she needs to be successful, understanding that each child has different strengths and needs.”
Dr. Roy says parental involvement is vital to a student’s success. In fact, recent research by University of New Hampshire suggests there is a causal link between the involvement and awareness of parents and guardians and how well a student does in the classroom.
Several years ago, the district launched eSchoolPLUS Home Access Center, a web-based portal, to provide families with access to student achievement information. “Home Access Center has been a valued tool that has allowed our families to connect with their student’s education,” Dr. Roy explains. “From recent research, however, we know that for some populations—particularly younger adults, minorities, and lower-income Americans—their smartphone is their only access to Internet. For this reason, we are launching the eSchoolPLUS Family App to tighten our connection with our students and their families.”
The eSchoolPLUS Family App’s easy-to-view icons quickly connect students, parents, and guardians with classwork, schedules, attendance, grades, activities, and more. The tool is designed to put just-in-time information at the fingertips of parents and guardians so that the data can be tightly coupled with their knowledge of what’s going on in their student’s life. With those insights, parents and guardians can structure what happens at home to support their student’s success. In addition, the Family App aids students in developing skills in productivity and time management that can benefit them throughout their life. Recently, a panel of more than 30 educators awarded the eSchoolPLUS Family App one of Tech & Learning’s prestigious Awards of Excellence.
Frank Lavelle, SunGard K-12 Education’s president and chief executive officer, is honored that one of the company’s solutions is playing a key role in such a worthwhile initiative to support the achievement of all students. “Certainly, Bethlehem Area School District’s focus on supporting the success of each and every student is a goal to be emulated,” he says. “We’re thrilled that such a respected district has chosen our solutions to support their efforts. Our eSchoolPLUS Family App goes beyond providing a static display of data to offer families information in a way that helps drive effective decision making by students, parents, and guardians.”
There is no cost for the Bethlehem Area School District families to download the eSchoolPLUS Family App. The Family App is available for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch on the App Store, for Android devices on Google Play, and for Kindle on Amazon.
