SunGard K-12 Education Announces Inaugural Lead without Limits Awards Recipients

Lead without Limits AwardsSunGard K-12 Education today announced the inaugural recipients of its new Lead without Limits Award program, which celebrates the excellence of its customers’ ed-tech initiatives. The Lead without Limits Awards Program recognizes school districts, schools, departments, administrators, and educators that leverage technology to improve student achievement and/or school or district efficiency.

According to George Pepper, president and CEO of SunGard K-12 Education, the Lead without Limits Award recipients are making a difference for students. “It’s an honor to serve these educators and administrators as they inspire students and support them in realizing the greatest possibilities for their lives,” says Pepper. “This month, we celebrate the innovative thinking and determination of Debra Rath, operations manager for Educational Service Unit #3, Nebraska, and Sami Jo Crivellaro, business teacher at Parkland High School, Pa., with our inaugural Lead without Limits Awards.

Lead without Limits Operational Efficiency Pacesetter: Debra Rath, Operations Manager, Educational Service Unit #3, La Vista, Neb.
Debra Rath successfully coordinated deployment of the eFinancePLUS financial and human resources system for 11 school districts. Under her leadership, the Nebraska districts have increased usage of the SunGard K-12 solution and implemented more effective business process. She has also deployed Cognos in all districts and has automated thousands of reports.

Lead without Limits Information Technology Innovator: Sami Jo Crivellaro, Business Teacher, Parkland High School, Allentown, Pa.
Sami Jo Crivellaro, a Parkland High School business teacher, volunteered to initiate and lead the district’s IT Academy, a blended learning course providing a pathway for Parkland High School students to achieve Microsoft® Office Specialist certification. Crivellaro built a course curriculum around Microsoft IT Academy video tutorials and GMetrix software practice exams and delivers the course in a blended style combining the online video tutorials and online practice component along with teacher support for her students. In preparation for the implementation of the IT Academy, Parkland became a Certiport Authorized Testing Center and the Parkland teacher led the preparation for the administration of the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) exams. As a result of her leadership and her work with students, Parkland’s first IT Academy class has 20 of 21 students MOS certified in Microsoft Word. The ultimate goal is to have students obtain at least two MOS certifications by the end of the class.

The Lead without Limits Awards recipients received a statuette. They are now in the running for the annual awards that will be presented at SunGard K-12 Education’s National User Group Conference in Palm Springs, Calif. SunGard K-12 Education will select the three annual award winners from all the monthly recipients during the year. For these three annual winners, SunGard K-12 will pay the conference fee for one individual to represent them at the conference and hear best practices shared by districts across the country.

Nominations for the Lead without Limits Awards are accepted through an online application form available on SunGard K-12 Education’s website. For guidelines and selection process, please see the Lead without Limits Awards Program information online.
