SunGard K-12 Education Announces Lead without Limits Awards Recipients
SunGard K-12 Education today announced the latest award recipients in its Lead without Limits Awards program, which celebrates the excellence of its customers’ ed-tech initiatives. The Lead without Limits Awards program recognizes school districts, schools, departments, administrators, and educators that leverage technology to improve student achievement and/or school or district efficiency.
According to Frank Lavelle, SunGard K-12 Education’s president and chief executive officer, the Lead without Limits Award recipients are making a difference for students in their districts. “It’s an honor to serve these administrators as they support students in realizing the greatest possibilities for their lives,” says Lavelle. “This month, we celebrate the innovative thinking and initiatives of the Accountability Department of Alief Independent School District in Houston, Texas, and the Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District Business Services Consortium of Michigan with our Lead without Limits Awards.”
The Accountability Department of Alief Independent School District in Houston, Texas, has been named a Lead without Limits Data All-Star. Alief ISD’s Accountability Department makes use of multiple sources of data to develop strategies to help ensure the success of students. The team uses standardized Cognos reports to provide stakeholders with data. The reports support principals in determining advanced and intervention courses, provide instructional leadership teams with insights on where support is most needed, aid teachers in determining the potential of their students, and help high schools determine which students need to take an end-of-course assessment. By developing consistent reports for all schools, the Accountability Department creates efficiencies in their professional development efforts. In addition, by relying on consistent reports for planning purposes, Alief ISD’s campuses have clear expectations and can work to efficiently analyze data and then effectively collaborate on plans to improve student achievement.
Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District Business Services Consortium, which is based in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., has been named a Lead without Limits Information Technology Innovator. The consortium supports the operation of 18 small, rural school districts—including public school districts, tribal school districts, charter public school academies, and a regional service intermediate school district. It covers 4,000 square miles and touches more than 7,000 students. In 2012, all of the districts adopted SunGard K-12 Education’s eFinancePLUS financial and human resources system. From one central set of servers, the districts utilize the financial and human resources system to track data and manage their reporting to Michigan’s Department of Education. As a prelude to the implementation, a team of collaborators from the districts worked together to standardize their various account structures into a single usable format and agreed to many standard codes (deduction, etc.). As a result of their effort, districts today are achieving operational efficiencies and are sharing best practices and innovations that result in cost savings for all districts.
