SunGard K-12 Education Announces Lead without Limits Awards Recipients
SunGard K-12 Education today announced the latest award recipients in its Lead without Limits Awards program, which celebrates the excellence of its customers’ ed-tech initiatives. The Lead without Limits Awards Program recognizes school districts, schools, departments, administrators, and educators that leverage technology to help improve student achievement and/or school or district efficiency.
Frank Lavelle, SunGard K-12 Education’s president and chief executive officer, says the Lead without Limits Award recipients are making a difference for students in their districts. “It’s an honor to serve these administrators as they support students in realizing the greatest possibilities for their lives,” says Lavelle. “This month, we celebrate the innovative thinking and initiatives of Janice O’Brien, Rockford Public Schools 205, Ill., and Donna Steele, Northwest Independent School District, Texas, with our Lead without Limits Awards.”
Janice O’Brien, software support specialist with Rockford Public Schools 205, has been recognized as a Lead without Limits Data All-Star for leveraging technology to help improve student achievement. O’Brien supports educational stakeholders by constantly looking for ways to provide data to end users so they can make better data-driven decisions. Through her efforts, she helps ensure the district gets the most value out of software solutions, such as eSchoolPLUS. For example, O’Brien collaborated with the district’s curriculum team on an RPS 205 Board-directed initiative to give all parents and guardians access to their student’s information with the goal of greater transparency. In order to achieve this directive, the district rolled out eSchoolPLUS standards-based gradebook in its elementary schools, and O’Brien developed district processes and guided users as they gained familiarity with the student achievement solution.
Donna Steele, recently retired applications associate coordinator at Northwest Independent School District, has been recognized as a Lead without Limits Information Technology Innovator for enhancing the educational process with technology. Steele pioneered Northwest ISD’s model for supporting students in envisioning their future career and helping the district meet high school graduation requirements, graduation planning, and state testing requirements established by Texas House Bill 5. Steele, who focused most of her career supporting the district’s counseling staff, says House Bill 5 was one of the biggest challenges of her career.
