SunGard K-12 Education Releases IEPPLUS 5 to Support Illinois Schools in Achieving Results-Driven Accountability
Today, SunGard K-12 Education, a leading software and technology services company for K-12 education, announced the release of the IEPPLUS 5 special education management solution for Illinois schools. The software provides a more fluid, dynamic experience that changes the game for special education while helping schools meet federal and state regulations.
The solution has become available just as the focus in special education is shifting from procedural compliance to results-driven accountability (RDA). In this new approach, the Office of Special Education Programs is refocusing the special education accountability system to emphasize improved results for children with disabilities.
Currently, each state is developing a State Systemic Improvement Plan, an ambitious but achievable three-year plan that describes how it will improve outcomes for children with disabilities served under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. In February 2015, states completed the analysis phase of the effort, which included an analysis of their achievement data, identification of areas to be improved, and determination of root causes that contribute to low performance. They also reviewed their infrastructure to assess if improvements are needed and created a Theory of Action, which is the context for their proposed collection of improvement strategies. States are now in the process of developing a multi-year plan, which is slated to be delivered in February 2016.
As these plans are developed, schools will be looking for technological solutions that can help them achieve those goals, says Joel Hames, SunGard K-12 Education’s vice president of product. “We believe IEPPLUS 5 can support Illinois school districts with their efforts to achieve RDA,” he says. “IEPPLUS can help special education teams increase meaningful collaboration, be more informed, focus on student success, and hit the ground running with minimal training.”
According to George Saunders, SunGard K-12’s IEPPLUS product manager, the SunGard K-12 special education management solution supports schools with complying with special education regulations. “IEPPLUS 5 is the solution for a changing special education environment and stands ready to support the new normal in special education,” says Saunders. “By leaning on smart technology, IEPPLUS 5 helps take the burden of procedural compliance and data validation off the shoulders of a school district’s staff.”
Customizable workflows in IEPPLUS 5 permit a special education team to set up processes that mirror the way they work. Form validation, real-time proactive compliance monitoring, rapid regulatory updates, and comprehensive regulatory form packages support strong procedural compliance.
With compliance on autopilot, special education teams have more time to focus on student achievement. Growth can be captured and shared in real time so that all team members are better informed and common goals are easily recognized, which helps collaboration become the norm. Contextual information helps special education teams learn more without having to search the data. In addition, IEPPLUS 5, with its intuitive user interface, is accessible from whatever tablet, laptop, or desktop a school district’s team members have at their fingertips.
